Meliora is only four days away from ascending to the position of Regis, the highest office in the city of Monumenta. The city's people believe she is pure and virtuous, a blessed and uncorrupted soul worthy of their admiration.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Meliora has left a trail of betrayal and sacrifice behind her on her climb to the top. And now, she has captured Monumenta's most notorious serial killer: Viscerine, Death's Damsel, the Terror of the Alley of Whispers. Meliora plans to make a sacrifice of Viscerine, to torture her as a way to erase her past sins and strengthen herself against her own doubts and fears.

But Viscerine proves to be far more alluring than Meliora expected. Soon, pain and passion intertwine, and instead of banishing the darkness from herself, Meliora finds that she may lose herself to it entirely…
